about

Composed in 1888, the music was written by James Scott Skinner, and lyrics by Alexander Hastings. Skinner was inspired to write this melody after seeing a mother holding her sick child in her arms in Forres, Scotland. Kate and Sarah sing this one together. Bùmarang wanted to use the voices and the harp to give it an ethereal quality. The melody is so haunting and the lyrics are somewhat mysterious. It’s never totally clear how the story unfolds, who has passed or when, and it’s a lullaby at heart so there’s a lot of tenderness here. There’s obviously a lot of grief but there’s also something hopeful in it. Looking beyond the sky, anticipating a reunion.
