about

Possibly dating back to 1430 Britain, 'Perry Merry Dictum, Domine' is also sometimes called 'Riddle Song'. It has nonsense Latin lyrics in the refrain. In this version, Bùmarang follow it up with old time fiddle tunes "Cumberland Gap" (an Appalachian folk song from the late 19th century) and "Washington’s March" (collected by fiddler Edden Hammons, and thought to also originate from the late 19th century).

lyrics

I have four brothers over the sea
Perry merry dictum dominee
They each sent a present unto me
Partum quartum perry dicentum
Perry merry dictum dominee

The first sent a chicken without any bones
Perry merry dictum dominee
The second sent a cherry without any stones
Partum quartum perry dicentum
Perry merry dictum dominee

The third sent a blanket without any thread
Perry merry dictum dominee
The fourth sent a book which cannot be read
Partum quartum perry dicentum
Perry merry dictum dominee

When the chicken’s in the egg it has no bones
Perry merry dictum dominee
When the cherry's in the blossom it has no stones
Partum quartum perry dicentum
Perry merry dictum dominee

When the blanket’s in the loom it has no thread
Perry merry dictum dominee
When the book’s in the press it cannot be read
Partum quartum perry dicentum
Perry merry dictum dominee
Partum quartum perry dicentum
Perry merry dictum
Perry merry dictum dominee
