about

Kate discovered this song in a collection entitled “Songs of Erin,” published in 1901. The fifty songs in the collection are almost entirely previously unpublished songs discovered by celebrated Irish music collector, George Petrie (1790-1866). The song’s lyrics send a warning message: do not rush into love, for it may “into ruin run,” just as the rose of spring wept away her petals red.
